Cineplex wanted their points membership program called SCENE to be cross-compatible on all devices. They only had a responsive website but wanted to build a mobile application for key tasks such as having easy access to redeem and earn SCENE points at the movies and other events.
After going through a lean process of building and deploying the application, the SCENE mobile application is active in the market for Android and iOS with positive reviews from users.
While working with Plastic Mobile, I was working closely with the art director on helping them shape a smooth user experience that will act as an extension to the Cineplex mobile app. I helped with conducting ad hoc usability testing, requirements gathering, and collaborating on ideas. The purpose of this mobile app is to attain SCENE members and attract new members by providing a quick and accessible way to do the following: digitally purchase items with Scene, view accumulated points from purchasing movie tickets and other past purchases, learn how to earn more points and save money on future purchases by using the earned points. The client wanted to only focus on adding the ability to earn and redeem SCENE points by also offering rewards and special offers to all users and to some specially targeted users.
The process with this project was very lean where I worked side by side with the art director on designing solutions and ideas by collaborating and sketching out concepts, iterating the designs through ad hoc testing that was conducted while I was ensuring business requirements were confirmed and being met. We went through scrum phases weekly and designed the application in batches starting from the home screen in different states, then the rest of the other tabs inside the app, and lastly to the sign-in and registration flows. We included micro interactions and different states as well as part of the lean development and sprint cycles.
In-betweeen design iterations, I quickly conducted ad hoc usability testing on the home screen and the "offers" screen to validate whether the use of language was appropriate as well as the visual cues. Language such as "redeem" and statements on how many rewards for how many points needed to be iterated and tested. After a scrum phase was completed and approved, I then finished documenting the designs and their functionalities for the developers to use as a guide to start developing the corresponding phase.
