Crackle TV Application

Purpose

This is a television application owned by Sony called Crackle that wanted to embrace a whole new, creative viewing experience for their users. Crackle worked with You.i TV on this and I was lucky to be part of the team as an interaction designer for this project.

Results

We went through an agile process as a team with prototyping designs, testing and deploying a new experience for a market in the United States for all TV platforms.

Analysis and design

I was involved in the early discovery/ideation stages of this project within a team of two interaction designers. We analyzed current wireframes that were done by a third party that needed a lot of improvement, brainstormed new ideas, researched requirements on various TV platforms as well as competitors and applications that were in a similar market. A large chunk of my responsibilities independently was to create experience maps for major user flows based on the qualitative research, business requirements and the usability testing insights. These experience maps were provided along with designs I recommended and documentation on functionality specifications.

Worked with the UX researcher

I assisted the UX researcher with an A/B usability testing of two variations of a prototype with browsing experiences that are passive and active, which resulted users to prefer the passive experience more due to it re-tracing their steps within the interface while navigating through content in the next 'lane' of movies or shows rather than maintaining a position in the next 'lane'. They also liked that this behaviour wasn't changing the content in the background while navigating through the content in the interface. Overall, the new and improved Crackle TV application went through several design iterations and prototyping in sprint cycles that went on for about 3 months. It is live and running in the United States.
